Dresden is the capital of the Federal German state of Saxony, and is located on the Elbe river. The city is a government and industrial centre and is also one of the cultural hot spots of Germany as well. While it may be attempting to regain some of the allure it had prior to the 1920s, Dresden can still be an inspiring place to be. A lot of the appeal of Dresden is due to the fabulous architecture that surrounds part of the city, a lot of which is famous nation wide. The most famous of Dresden's architectural monuments are even recognised on an international scale, and some people travel to Dresden to see such fabulous buildings as the Frauenkirche, the Semperoper and the Zwinger Palace.
